Pharmacy education plays an essential role in preparing professionals who can respond to the evolving healthcare needs of communities across Africa. As pharmacy schools continue to grow and develop across the continent, collaboration between institutions has become increasingly important.
The Association of Schools of Pharmacy in Africa (ASPA) provides a platform for pharmacy schools, academics and other stakeholders to connect, exchange knowledge and work together towards strengthening pharmacy education, science and practice.
Building Stronger Connections
One of ASPA’s key objectives is to create opportunities for member institutions to share best practices in pharmacy education and foster research collaborations. By bringing academics and institutions together, the Association encourages the exchange of ideas, strategies and experiences that can contribute to stronger pharmacy programmes.
ASPA also seeks to provide a forum where member institutions can engage with policymakers and regulatory bodies on matters affecting pharmacy education across the continent.
Sharing Knowledge and Resources
Schools of Pharmacy across Africa operate at different levels of development and have different areas of expertise. Collaboration provides an opportunity for institutions to learn from one another.
Through ASPA, proposed opportunities include staff exchange programmes, access to expertise and training facilities, mentorship and professional development. Younger pharmacy schools may particularly benefit from interactions with established institutions in areas such as curriculum development, postgraduate education and research.
Working Towards Better Health
Ultimately, strengthening pharmacy education goes beyond individual institutions. Better education helps prepare future generations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists to contribute effectively to healthcare.
This reflects ASPA’s vision of better health for all Africans through impactful pharmacy education and collaborative practice.
By building connections across borders and creating opportunities to share expertise, ASPA aims to help pharmacy institutions across Africa grow together and contribute to the advancement of the profession.
