Association of Schools of Pharmacy in Africa

Membership Category

General:

Membership to be open to all Faculty/School/Department (hereinafter referred to as ‘School’) and academic staff of Pharmacy in tertiary educational institutions across the Africa Region.

Membership classes:

01.

Institution.

02.

Individuals affiliated to a School even though the school may not yet be a member. Individual members must themselves be academic staff members of the School whether pharmacist or pharmaceutical scientist.

03.

Associate or affiliate members e.g. regulatory councils, pharmaceutical companies, national pharmaceutical associations, young pharmacists and young pharmacists groups, student pharmacists and student pharmacists groups

Dues:

Different membership classes will attract registration and membership dues as agreed from time to time by the Executive Committee and ratified at the General Meeting.

Governance:

Governance of ASPA will be drawn from the members. The Board of Trustees will serve in advisory capacity to the Executive Committee.

The Association will be led by an Executive Committee to be made up of about 6 to 7 people elected by the Council as proposed below:

Executive committee to comprise of at least: President, Deputy President(s), Secretary, Asst. Secretary, Publicity Secretary and a financial officer (Treasurer or Financial Secretary). As may be approved, an Executive Secretary may be hired to take on administrative duties of the Association. The executive secretary may also handle the financial responsibilities of the association (To be a pharmacist not necessarily an academic).

The Governing council will be made up of representatives from the various schools represented in the Association.

The Board of Trustees.

As may be required for the smooth running of the association, working groups, standing and/or ad-hoc committees will be set up. Information on eligibility to join a working group, standing committee or ad-hoc committee will be shared to all members of the Association. As may be required from time to time, the Executive committee may appoint a liaison officer to serve its purposes in any member country as needed.
